Casey Stoner was no ordinary rider. Fans and journalists soon realised that they were dealing with a different character from those they had become familiar over the years; engineers and rivals alike did not take long to realise that his riding style would soon change the way they experienced racing.
The motorcycling world had seen riders who had changed the rules of the game before, but how the young Australian did it took everyone by surprise.
He arrived from faraway Australia in an environment where mostly European riders competed, with a lifestyle and riding style very different from his own. He had clear goals and no desire to have his plans disrupted.
So many sacrifices and so much desire to work hard led Casey Stoner to achieve those goals he had set himself as a child, with the talent and ambition that characterise true champions.
His exploits brought him into the hearts of many fans: especially the Italian ones, to whom he gave the unique exploit of a World Championship with Ducati.
His career may be over soon, but his legacy is destined to last.
