Anyone passing through Stein in Switzerland's Außerrhoden canton expects more of a tractor workshop than a Ferrari garage. The fact that the sports cars of the noble Italian marque are sold, repaired and serviced here is down to the entrepreneurial spirit of Fritz Leirer.
Fritz likes to talk about his life: his childhood in Herisau, his youth with Rita, whom he later married, the establishment of the company and its economic issues, or the race tracks where he repaired sports cars. But to put his memories in writing, he was short of time.
In 2022, Fritz and Rita Leirer celebrated their 80th birthday. The anniversary was the occasion to tidy up their notes, documents, memos, and commission the author Esther Ferrari to write a biography.
The result - Ein Leben mit Ferrari. Fritz und Rita Leirer. Eine Familien- und Firmengeschichte - is a book full of anecdotes and photographs. In it, the freelance journalist and popular storyteller shows how the boy from humble beginnings grew up to become a passionate mechanic's apprentice and finally a successful businessman.
