Whoever the authors asked to research the background of the German racing championship and to clarify memories - the bottom line was what Hans-Joachim Stuck summed up in his preface with "it was just a great time". Even the list of champions from 1972 to 1985 reads like an elite excerpt from the "Who is who" of the touring and sports car scene at the time: "Striezel" Stuck, Dieter Glemser, Hans Heyer, Rolf Stommelen, Klaus Ludwig, Harald Ertl , Bob Wollek, Stefan Bellof and Jochen Mass.
You and many others have their say in this book or are portrayed - such as the unforgettable audience favorites Manfred Winkelhock, Markus Höttinger and Edgar Dören. Each season is retelling in its own chapters. The technology is examined very vividly and entertaining based on the regulations and spectacular racing cars such as Ford Capri I, BMW 320, Ford Escort, Lancia Beta Montecarlo, Porsche Carrera or Porsche 935, Turbo Capri and BMW M1.
Many anecdotes that can only be told now allow a look behind the scenes and make you smile. Last but not least, the very extensive statistics section gives a precise overview of what has happened on and off the slopes. And the whole thing is garnished with a large number of photos which - some of which have not yet been published - tell and complete this story in their impressive way. All of this brought together by two contemporary witnesses with a noticeable desire on both sides - both then sports reporters with equally critical distance and great love for this fascinating sport. A must-read for anyone whose heart is also racing.
The content was supplemented by two chapters: First, 30 short portraits of racing drivers who have left particularly lasting marks in the German Racing Championship. And on the other hand, a collection of subjective personal memories of prominent actors of crucial moments of this era. Both new components round off the base work again with additional exciting facets.
