Born in 1880, Émile Mathis had a passion for the automotive world from his youth. Smart businessman, at the end of the 1920s he was the fourth largest French car manufacturer.

The economic crisis and then World War II caused his empire to falter, but, driven by unwavering energy, he continued to develop new businesses until shortly before his death at the age of 76.

Over the years, some  enthusiasts have collected objects, documents and photos, which we find in part in this volume, to whose realization the Club des Amateurs de Mathis and its founder Jean-Pierre Miniot, as well as Francis Roll.

The “Les Amateurs de Mathis” club was founded in 1979 by three enthusiasts and rapidly developed in France, Europe and even the United States.

It has been affiliated with the French Federation of Classic Vehicles (FFVE) since 1989 and brings together owners and users of the vehicles of the brand, but also people interested in the Strasbourg car brand.
