Tuners, engineers and racers in the DDR: Harald Täger, general manager of the Allgemeiner Deutscher Motorsport-Verband, has collected all sorts of anecdotes about technical specialities of some enthusiasts. In those days, people mostly had to improvise. Furthermore, many things were invented and developed in backyards or garages.
But the results were exciting, even if they often did not make it to series production and were often only known by insiders. Examples were the Trabant with 80 hp, a car with three engines, an aeroplane with a Trabant engine. Then there were the ‘rag tyres’, the ‘Riga secret mission’ and so on...
