A must, an extreme Ferrari, a car that still impresses and fascinates today, more than thirty years after its birth.
The Ferrari F40 caused more than a sensation when it saw the light of day in 1987, for its striking lines, for the mighty 'almost all visible' mechanics that promised never seen before performance, and for the fascination it emanates from any perspective.
The Cavallino's last Gran Turismo 'approved' by Enzo Ferrari is the protagonist of this monograph by Gaetano Derosa, a volume that starts from afar by analyzing the F40's 'ancestors': from the 250 LM of 1963 to the 308 'Millechiodi' of 1977 to the 288 GTO of 1984 and the GTO Evoluzione of 1986.
The technical and stylistic evolution of the F40 is also told by the creators of that Ferrari doc: from Leonardo Fioravanti, in the dual role of designer and then vice-president of the Maranello marque, to Nicola Materazzi who defined the 'monstrous' 8-cylinder that powered the car, to Piero Ferrari himself who was one of the great supporters of the F40 Le Mans project.
It is no coincidence that the book ends with an extensive chapter dedicated to the F40's involvement in racing, from the GT and single-make championships to its return to the Le Mans 24 Hours.
