Enzo Ferrari's interest in motor racing began in 1908 when he was just ten years old. His interest in cars led him to become a delivery driver, and he began to compete in motor races.
In 1929, he formed his own racing team using Alfa Romeos and by 1932 this had become the official Alfa works team.
After World War II he built the first Ferrari racer, the 125S, and racing was never quite the same again. Throughout the '50s and '60s the red cars from Maranello were raced by some of the finest drivers ever to have sat behind the wheel.
Fangio, Hawthorne, Surtees, Hill and Ascari, among others, raced and Thrilled the crowds; there are few great names who have not, at one time, raced a Ferrari.
It was not just in Grand Prix that Ferrari were winning races, the excellent sports cars were to be seen winning races all over the World and races such as the Le Mans 24 hour frequently had a red car towards the front.
Ferrari Racing: A Pictorial History, published in 1997, is a celebration of over 60 years of competition by one of the World's truly great marques.
Over 200 contemporary photographs, including rare colour pictures, chart developments of these super cars and the careers of their drivers whose names read like a Who's Who of motor racing.
With well-researched captions by motoring writer Colin Goodwin Ferrari racing: A Pictorial History is a fine tribute to the cars and the teams that built and raced them.
