FIVA - Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens - was founded in 1966, and currently has more than 85 federated associations in over 62 countries around the world, which in turn represent a total of over 1.5 million historic vehicle enthusiasts.
FIVA's main objective is to encourage the safe use of mechanically propelled historic vehicles on the roads for the benefit of their owners, enthusiasts and the public.
To this end, FIVA, through its Events Commission, manages a Calendar of Events that co-ordinates the most prestigious historic car events around the world.
FIVA is also committed to the preservation of historic vehicles, which are considered to be an important part of our industrial heritage, and seeks to catalogue as many historic vehicles as possible through the FIVA Identity Card.
To achieve this, FIVA pursues and develops relationships with UNESCO, and cooperates with FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) and FIM (Fédération Internationale Motocycliste).
This volume recounts the first fifty years of FIVA, its birth, evolution and composition.
