The Marathon de la Route was a series of road rallies held in Europe between 1931 and 1971, including the Liège-Rome-Liège and Liège-Sofia-Liège disputed on open roads, and closed-circuit races held at the Nürburgring from 1965 to 1971. Many famous drivers like Olivier Gendebien, Willy Mairesse, Lucien Bianchi and Jacky Ickx were involved.
In this interesting book by Hervè Chevalier, published in 2005, there is a year-by-year, and car-by-car review of the participation of Healey and Austin Healey cars (Sprite, 3000, 100, Silverstone etc) in the Marathon de la Route, which in 1960 was won by the world-famous flying woman Pat Moss in a 3000.
There are many vintage images of this extraordinary trans-European event, which, at different times, passed through Rome, Spa and Sofia on its arduous route.
A total of 43 Healey entered the rally between 1951-1954: in Liège-Rome-Liège (in 1951, 1952, 1955, 1958 and 1959), Liège-Sofia-Liège (in 1960, 1961, 1962 and 1963) and Spa-Sofia-Liège (in 1964).
Les Healey du Marathon 1951-1964 has 174 pages, and more than 200 b/w images.
