"Miglior tempo" was once said, other than pole position. It was what you conquered by pushing the car beyond all limits, without knowing how it would end.
"Miglior tempo" was those of the races where the men led and not the strategies of the pits, those disputed by the Turin-based Carlo Mario Abate (1932-2019). Driver of Gran Turismo, Sport Prototypes and Formula 1, he was winner of the Mille Miglia, the Targa Florio, at Sebring, Monza, Clermont-Ferrand, Nürburgring, Reims as well as in countless hill climbs.
"Miglior tempo" was the one that the driver dedicated to his family after retiring from racing. Where many, too many died.
