After the tragic hiatus caused by the Second World War, motor sport, like many other activities, gradually returned to popularity. Road events, where "everyday" or near-everyday cars took part, developed considerably.
This allowed many amateur drivers to follow their passion, while manufacturers and equipment suppliers saw rallies as a great opportunity to showcase their products.
The traffic on the roads is not yet heavy, and the spirit is that of freedom and daring. An era of great adventures on the road, commonly referred to as the "golden age of rallies".
L'Age d'or des rallyes - Chroniques et résultats 1962-1963 lists the main French (and some European) events, collecting the most important information and rankings, where the small BMW 700s and Renault Dauphine compete with Alfa Romeos and Ferrari GTs. The first seasons of 1962 and 1963 are covered in detail.
