The Peugeot 404 marked an important page in the history of the 1960s. Launched in May 1960, the car with its distinctly Italian lines was offered in bright colours, orange or lagoon blue, with a sunroof and panoramic windscreen.
It was hailed as a big, beautiful saloon destined to success. The cabriolet, then the coupé, appeared in October 1961 and were ambassadors of Italian style (Pininfarina) until September 1968.
In 1963, the elegant 404 Break offered several trim options, and contributed greatly to the success of this model: a family car with three rows of seats and a commercial vehicle with maximum load volume.
To complete the range, the platform cab version (petrol or diesel) only left the French market in the 1980s and continued its production abroad. This glorious career was marked by a prestigious sporting record that, from the East African Safari to the Rally of Argentina, was equalled only by Citroën DS.
La Peugeot 404 de mon père traces a comprehensive profile of the car, with a wealth of information and data, and a rich photographic record of 220 images.
