The most famous, exciting, complete car race of all time narrated by one of its most faithful protagonists, Count Giovanni Lurani Cernuschi.

Thus, here is a ''Storia della Mille Miglia'' that becomes a living testimony, a real live chronicle of an event that for thirty years, from 1927 to 1957 (except for the interruption due to the war), punctually every spring, attracted the attention of all motor sports enthusiasts throughout the world; a competitive event that in Italy involved general interest, far beyond the sporting sphere and 'geography' of the race, and was turned into a great national spectacle, a custom phenomenon, with economic implications of a considerable importance.

Giovanni Lurani is perhaps the only writer who, through direct experience and personal knowledge of the men, can relive, with the rigour of a historian and the spirit of a reporter, the events and atmosphere of this mythical race. In the arc of twenty years, between 1932 and 1952, he competed in nine editions of the Mille Miglia, twice finishing in the top ten and three times first in his class.

A driver of international reputation, Lurani also achieved good results at the "12 Hours" of Brooklands, the "24 Hours" of Pescara, Le Mans, Giro di Sicilia, Targa Florio, Circuito di Latina, Tripoli Grand Prix, South African Grand Prix and many other top races. He won three Italian championship titles and set countless international records, many of them at the wheel of a car he designed, the "Nibbio".

With this passionate ''Storia della Mille Miglia'', a nostalgic re-evocation of an adventure experienced in first person and narrated year by year, as a diary, Lurani offers a detailed documentation of the sporting, technical and romantic aspects of an event that undoubtedly marked a well-defined and unrepeatable era in world motor racing.
