At the beginning of the 1960s Innocenti made a technological advance in the construction of the Lambretta: it introduced a load-bearing chassis, inspired by Piaggio's direct competitor Vespa.
Thus, it was born the Junior series, models aimed at a younger public and with a lower selling price than the traditional LI and TV versions.
The Junior series was produced in different displacements, from the smallest 50 cc, for young 14-year-olds, to the more powerful 100 and 125 cc, for youngsters who wanted a practical and economical means of transport for their fun Sunday trips.
Initially, in the first months of 1964, it was offered in the 100 cc displacement only, destined mainly for foreign markets; then, at the end of 1964, the range was extended with the 50 cc and 125 cc models.
In 1966 the new 4-speed 125 was introduced, brighter and faster and then, in 1968, the 50 DL with redesigned bonnets and 10-inch wheels; the last version produced was the 50 Special with some aesthetic upgrades and new colours. This last model remained in production until the factory closed in May 1971.
A total of 167,784 examples were produced in the three displacements. Certainly a great commercial success that still lives on in the hearts of Lambrettisti all over the world.
Lambretta junior 50, 100, 125. Storia Modelli e documenti - History, models and documents deals with specific chapters on production aspects, technology, advertising and many other curiosities about this model series that was once again a remarkable success amongst the public.
120 pages and hundreds of b/w and colour images.
