When this Mercedes range made its appearance in 1968, it soon became familiar to everyone: the mid-size saloon was the Mercedes for newcomers to the brand and was particularly popular among taxis.
W114 and W115 were the design abbreviations of this German car, produced between 1968 and 1976, nicknamed "/8" ("Strichacht", in German) to identify the last digit of the year of birth.
Well-finished but above all robust and with a reliability that became proverbial, this Mercedes-Benz model was a great success all over the world, including Italy.
Built in almost two million examples, it was the best-selling Mercedes model from the post-war period to the end of production, outclassed only by the heir W123 and is regarded as the first of the series belonging to what decades later would become known as the E-Class.
Even today, these almost indestructible saloons and coupes have not disappeared from the road scene, and are still highly valued by enthusiastic collectors.
In Mercedes-Benz/8 - Mercedes für Millionen, Alexander F. Storz offers the complete history of this undoubtedly successful model, with all the historical facts and technical data.
