The Mille Miglia - from Brescia across the Italian peninsula to Rome and back - was held for the first time in 1927 and took place for the last time in 1957.
Twenty years later, a new edition of this glorious competition was organised, with a new formula, adapted to the times but no less fascinating, that of a regularity competition - in which only cars that have also taken part in the historic Mille Miglia are admitted.
The author, Hans-Jörg Götzl, traces the time span from black and white racing history to today's colourful celebration of classic cars. It starts with the vehicle inspections in Brescia, then moves on to the three stages Brescia-Ferrara, Ferrara-Rome and Rome-Brescia.
Mille Miglia. Das legendäre Oldtimerrennen, published in 2000, gives us a comprehensive overview of classic cars, with a rich section of news and tips for potential participants, a list of cars eligible for the race, useful addresses and lists of winners.
