Well known since its beginnings in 1923 for its daily motorbikes, Motobecane still had a predilection for racing.
The factory was strongly involved before the war with a real racing department. It was during these years that the Bloc S appeared, born of Ernst Drucker's slide rule and Geo Ham's pencil.
Available in capacities from 250 to 600 cc, it won everything: the Bol d'Or several times, the French championship, the Paris-Les Pyrénées-Paris...
Despite the dark years of the war, during which the brand officially withdrew from racing, great champions would emerge, and would cover the brand's logo with laurels.
Agents firmly established in the heart of French cities, or local mechanics, prepared four-stroke Motobécane, with the ever-present "Z" in front, and with only the means at their disposal, mutual help, and a handful of talent, they achieved numerous successes.
And although the spirit of Motobecane was synonymous with circuits or open road racing, the four-strokes, from the 125 to the 350 twin-cylinder, could be used on any terrain: the track, of course, but also the marshes of the trials circuit, the bumps of the cross-country circuit and the impossible trails of enduro racing.
As well as the technology and evolution of the bikes, this book tells the stories of men, riders, tuners and skilled mechanics who put their lives at the service of the company of Pantin, wearing a... chronometer!
