When Ford wished to consolidate the already enviable position of its new Mustang, the manufacturer approached Carroll Shelby so that it would bring the model the sporting credibility it lacked. Based on a 1965 Mustang fastback with โCode Kโ 289 engine (4.7 liters), Shelby applied the recipe that allowed him to create the Cobra, a formidable road and track machine: more power, less weight, balanced handling. The GT 350 quickly established itself as a serious competitor in American and European events, on winding roads as well as on long straights. These authentic Shelby Mustangs stopped in 1970 but, in 2006, Ford and Shelby renewed a relationship which made it possible to produce extremely efficient Ford Mustang Shelbys again.
Shelby Mustang traces the full story of these fantastic cars, from the first prototypes made in Shelbyโs workshop in Los Angeles, to current machines, produced by Ford and equipped with the most advanced technologies. Magnificently illustrated with old and recent photos, in black and white and in colors, this work will seduce both Mustang and motor sport enthusiasts.
