This book, published in 1991, should have been entitled Il 1° Raid sulle orme di Marco Polo, since the initial idea was to retrace, in the name of solidarity for disabled children and peace, the stages of the historic journey that the Venetian merchant made through Asia in the 14th century and later narrate in the famous book Il Milione.

The raid had been organized by the ASAAA (Associazione Sportiva Amici Auto Storiche) of Darfo Boario Terme, with the support of the "Inno alla Vita" Association chaired by the famous singer Luciano Tajoli, as part of activities to raise public awareness on the problem of disabled children.

Due to rising conflicts, the raid turned into a tour of post-Cold War Europe. It started from Darfo Boario Terme on 20 October 1990 and ended on 8 December, after exactly 50 days of travel on the roads of no less than 19 countries, covering a total of 27,600 kilometers.

Four were the protagonists, Domenico Zeziola, hotelier, Giovanni Pizio, a cook, Sergio 'Red' Cherstich, T.V. operator and service technician, and the author, Adriano Sigala, a teacher, travel correspondent in care of the on-board journal, responsible for information and public relations.

The co-protagonists of the trip, a glorious Fiat 600 multipla, sturdy and versatile enough, a Mercedes camper van for support, plus a trailer for food and equipment.
