The Porsche 911 is one of the biggest icons in the European automotive industry. This year (2013) it celebrates its 50th anniversary.
It was 1963 when the first ever prototype, designed by Ferdinand 'Butzi' Porsche, grandson of the founder, was unveiled. The prototypes' name was 901, but since Peugeot had claimed the use of the '0' as the centre digit of their models, Porsche had to change it into 911. 50 years later we know that changing the name has not done much damage to the image of the car.
