After initial experience as an interior designer, Walter Maria de Silva made his real debut in automotive design in 1986 with Alfa Romeo.
A man of great insight and skill, De Silva brought a breath of fresh air into the field of automotive exterior design. At Alfa Romeo, he developed several car models that won several awards for their avant-garde design.
In the 2000s, the designer left the Fiat group and entered the Volkswagen family. His career continued successfully, and in 2007 he became head of the Volkswagen Group Style Centre, overseeing all seven of the group's brands.
De Silva is also the winner of the prestigious Compasso d'Oro Career Prize awarded to him in 2011 by the Industrial Design Association.
