Anyone who believed to have seen all in the Internationales ADAC Zurich 24h-Rennen was proven wrong once again in the 45th running of the event. Until one hour before the end, it was as warm as it had last been back in 1986 and as dry as in 2001, but then, the weather turned things upside down. A brief, but heavy downpour from Adenauer Forst to Breidscheid and from Hoher Acht to Galgenkopf considerably mixed up the ranking.
In front of 205,000 spectators, the number 29 Land Motorsport Audi had spent the most time in the lead up to that point. Then, Connor De Philippi, Christopher Mies, Markus Winkelhock and Kelvin van der Linde lost two places due to an engine problem. Mechanics were shedding tears as they were so close to victory in the most important race of the year. With rain setting in, the team from the Westerwald region went nap: the tyre choice proved to be exactly right and on the penultimate lap, van der Linde moved back up into the lead. Tears were shed once again in Wolfgang Landโs team, but this time, they were tears of joy! What an epic ride!
But the hot action wasnโt just limited to the battle for the overall lead. The numerous classes, the support races, the paddock or the Adenauer Racing Day that opened the mega event on Wednesday afternoon had plenty in store as well. And not to forget the live TV coverage by RTL nitro with over 25 hours of live coverage, like in the previous year and on 3sat back in 1987.
As usual, the official annual has captured everything in images and words, including the unique results and statistics section.
