The ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring is not just a car race. It is the most important race on the longest and most difficult track in the world, the Nürburgring-Nordschleife.
Whoever stands on the highest step of the podium here is considered important in the world of motor sport. This race is special not only because of the unique up and down course through the Eifel forests, but also for the very special weather conditions.
Due to the length of the track, one part of the 25.378 kilometres of asphalt is often dry, while the other is wet from the rain: an incredible challenge for drivers and team strategies.
The 24-hour race at the Nürburgring has fascinated fans and drivers from all over the world for more than 50 years, but for a long time the weather on the Eifel has not been as merciless as this year. By 11.20pm the fog had become so thick that it was impossible for the race to continue.
The teams had been running for just seven hours and there was only one more short run to go. The fog lifted with such difficulty that it was only possible to complete five laps behind the leading car around midday, before the black and white chequered flag marked the end of the shortest 24-hour race of all time.
