Antonio e Alberto Ascari, father and son, were great champions of motor sport. But it is not only and above all for this reason that their biographies have been collected, indeed intertwined, in a single volume.

The deepest, most significant reason', writes Cesare De Agostini, 'is that comparing the lives of Antonio and Alberto Ascari, we find, despite the difference in dates (roughly thirty years between the exploits of one and the other), a striking analogy, almost an identity, of human and sporting data.

The irresistible passion enhanced by an iron self-discipline; the slow and difficult rise achieved through gritted teeth; the collection of sensational victories to crown the years of sacrifice; the absolute immunity from the vertigo of success; the unforeseen, unexplained, incredible end.

And so many admirers, not without a touch of superstition nourished by the existence of many formal coincidences, have come to see the two drivers as successive incarnations of the same vocation and destiny.

The author of this book, Cesare De Agostini, was then a young journalist in Mantua and a close friend of Ascari's family.

In addition to the precious collection of news and photographs, he was also responsible for the discovery of Antonio's widow's notebook (partially reproduced here).

At the end of the book, there is an appendix with all the races of Antonio and Alberto Ascari.
