Wikov was founded in December 1918, just a few months after the constitution of the new Czechoslovak state, and was the result of the cleverness of its owners: the Wichterle family and the Kovárik family, both from Prostejov, a town located about 60 kilometres north-east of Brno, the capital of Moravia.

Frantisek Wichterle was the co-founder, in 1878, of a workshop for repairing agricultural equipment, which he expanded and turned into an agricultural machinery factory over the next decade, becoming the only owner.

From 1894, the firm of brothers Josef and Frantisek Kovárik began to produce stationary machines and engines, gradually moving towards the same product sector of the Wichterle firm. The necessary cooperation during the Great War years, and the subsequent geographic decline of the domestic market, finally prompted the merging of the two firms into a single company, which took the name Wichterle & Kovárik, or WiKov for short.

Automobily Wikov: Wichterle & Kovaล™ík, a.s., Prostฤ›jov - Morava tells the story of the Wichterle & Kovaล™ík factory in Prostฤ›jov, with a focus on the period of automobile production under the Wikov brand name.

The publication is accompanied by a series of valuable archive photographs, plus unique drawings by the famous artist Václav Zapadlík and his colleague Bidlo. A separate chapter is dedicated to the history of Prostฤ›jov, and a detailed technical appendix.
