The Bugatti Type 35 is one of the most successful and beautiful, grand prix racing cars of all time, and contains many innovative design features. Introduced in 1924, the car quickly became a front-runner in grand prix and Formule Libre events, for private entrants as well as the factory team.
It won the gruelling Targa Florio five times in a row and was victorious in the very first Monaco Grand Prix of 1929 and again in 1930. It is said to have won 1,045 races in Europe in 1925-26 alone. And all this for a car designed by a man who had no formal technical or engineering training.
The Type 35 was driven by all great pre-war drivers, including Robert Benoist, Louis Chiron, René Dreyfus, Tazio Nuvolari, William Grover-Williams and Achille Varzi, also the "Bugatti Belles" - the female drivers of the 1920s and 30s, in particular Eliska Junek and the flamboyant Hellé Nice.
Bugatti Type 35 Owners' Workshop Manual: 1924 onwards (all models) explores the design and construction of the Type 35, along with the many variants it spawned. It also provides extensive background to the Bugatti story, including Ettore Bugatti's family life.
