After having lost the 1997 world championship at the last race in Jerez against the Williams of Jacques Villeneuve, in 1998 Michael Schumacher found a new rival in his way: Mika Häkkinen and his silver and super-fast McLaren Mercedes.
Before the final race in Japan, there were 7 victories for Hakkinen and 6 for Schumacher, with 4 points of difference (90 to 86) between the two.
The start was repeated three times: in the second Schumacher made a big mistake - he put first gear and switched off the engine - and had to start from the last line.
It was the beginning of the end of the German's dreams of glory. Hakkinen started undisturbed and flew towards the title, while Schumacher was the author of a furious comeback that initially brought him to the lowest step of the podium, before the puncture of the right rear of his Ferrari on lap 31: the retirement of the Rossa opened the door to Mika Häkkinen's first world title.
F1 98 La prima volta di Hakkinen … e la sfida continua tells all this and much more, with a photographic chronicle of all the GP, drawings and cutaways of the cars, curiosities from the paddock and detailed statistics.
210 pages and over 200 photos.
