When Riccardo Patrese made his debut with Shadow in 1977, Formula 1 was a very different world from the one we know today: wages far from pharaonic, relative safety conditions, all too frequent accidents.

In seventeen years - and 256 Grands Prix - he would see it change a lot, ending his career at Benetton in 1993 alongside a talented youngster, a young Michael Schumacher

Rumbling at full throttle from pit lane to memory lane, the ex-driver retraces his memories, starting with his beginnings on karts and in Formula Italia, moving on to his debut in F1, his first Grand Prix won almost casually, and his glory days at Williams with Nigel Mansell and Adrian Newey.

In between a waltz with Grace Kelly and a game of golf with 'The Prince' Rainier of Monaco, an Endurance Tour of Italy with Renato Pozzetto as navigator, friendships with De Angelis, Senna and Ecclestone, the National Drivers' team matches.

He is not afraid to get a few things off his chest, such as his conflictual relationship with Flavio Briatore, his rifts with Niki Lauda and James Hunt, and that missed opportunity with Ferrari…

And, most of all, the fatal accident with Ronnie Peterson in 1978, for which Patrese was wrongly held responsible for too many years. The overwhelming and exciting career of a great motor racing protagonist of the 1980s and 1990s, who even today says of himself: "Sono un sopravvissuto" (I am a survivor).
