Ten years after the initial release of the book, which was published in 2014 in a limited edition of only 243 copies, a new, even more limited reprint of 100 unnumbered copies is now available.

This publication is the exclusive source of information regarding one of the most renowned and desirable models from Maserati: the 3500 GT Spyder Vignale.

The Maserati 3500 GT Spyder

The coachbuilder Alfredo Vignale from Turin secured the contract to produce the convertible version of Maserati's first series of GT automobiles. Designed by Giovanni Michelotti, the vehicle exhibited a distinctive style compared to the Touring coupe, characterized by more angular and muscular lines. Although Touring had previously proposed a convertible version of its coupe, only three units were ever produced. In contrast, Vignale developed numerous pre-production prototypes, making various modifications to details before finalizing the design intended for mass production.

Over a span of six years, approximately 250 units of the Vignale spider were sold. Mechanically, the vehicle shared the same components as the coupe, although the wheelbase was shortened by 10 cm. Starting in 1961, the Lucas direct injection system and the 5-speed transmission became available for both the spider and the coupe, while front and rear disc brakes were introduced in 1962. The body of the spider was constructed from steel, while the doors, front and rear hoods were made from lightweight alloy, as was the optional hardtop. Electric windows were included as standard equipment, and the performance was consistent with that of a convertible, capable of reaching speeds of 220 km/h.
