There was a time when human beings (both men and women) were not afraid to die; on the contrary, they often faced death with the mocking smile of those who believed they were immortal. And many of these were Italians, the citizens of a small nation, but which in a few years became incredibly respectable in the world.
It was the Italy that amazed and fascinated, that was loved for its achievements and inventions. And Gabriele d'Annunzio was one of its sons.
The world was changing fast, progress seemed unstoppable, and living it as a protagonist was the key word.
In all fields, however, Italy found itself unprepared, unfit to play a leading role in the international chessboard. Unprepared but not defeated, it accepted the challenge.
Industries began to produce planes, cars and ships, and in every field exploits were achieved that had never before been attempted by more powerful and industrialized nations.
Recalling an era to remember through the eyes of the Vate those women, those men and their exploits is what the author has attempted to do by writing this book.
With over 100 historical photographs, mostly from the Nuvolari Collection.
