At the first light of the 20th century, a car, "Itala", was preparing for a challenge that would consign it to the pages of history: the Beijing-Paris raid.
On board are a prince, a journalist and Ettore, a promising young mechanic from Budrio, in the province of Bologna, who devoted himself body and soul, amidst desert, taiga and boulevards, to its maintenance - and it was his ability to master the car that made the difference over the other racers.
A new Western devilry, however, cannot but pose a threat to the stability of the East, still exhausted by the aggressive intrusion that resulted, just eight years earlier, in the Boxer Revolt.
The three protagonists - amidst tea ceremonies, rings and mysterious deaths - will have to continually defend themselves from the plots that await them at each step, carefully prepared by the extroverted and resolute Prince Scipione; while the reporter, sacrificed in the back of the car amidst fumes and engines, reports to the Corriere della Sera on the customs, people and landscapes of those distant lands that, also thanks to them, will gradually become nearer.
Il principe e l'autista - Il raid Pechino-Parigi del 1907 has 217 pages. Text in Italian.
