In the centenary year of the Coppa Nissena, Lillo Ariosto, an acute narrator, in an enthralling ride brings to life the intense atmosphere of the race with the thoroughness of a chronicler and the touches of an involving writer.
In the treasure chest of memory, there is more than just motor racing. The book is enriched with pages from the city's history. Two feelings coexist in the lawyer Ariosto: the love for his Caltanissetta and the passion for motoring in its golden years.
The city went through fascism, World War II, the armistice, liberation, the end of the monarchy, the proclamation of the Republic and the advent of the first democratic governments.
In parallel, we find the Nissena passion for motor racing. The scenery saw "gentiluomini felici e veloci" (gentlemen happy and fast) with a concert of infernal engines passing through large lonely places, rural dwellings and the city centre of Caltanissetta rich in artworks.
There was also a large crowd of spectators who watched jubilantly along the route, from grandstands, balconies, and the roofs of houses.
