Jaguar D Type & XKSS, published in 1983, is part of the well-known Osprey AutoHistory series.

The Osprey AutoHistory series was a fresh concept in motoring book publishing. Each title is a careful synthesis of subject and white and colour photography.

They are written by a recognised talent and the photographs are collected and shot by an expert photographer. The book series is designed to present some of the world's most interesting and charismatic cars.

The author, Graham Robson, tackles the D type as a car; why and how it happened; what it signified in the period 1954 to 1957; how it related to other Jaguar types; and how it fits in with the technical evolution of the Jaguar.

The eight chapter headings spell it all out; 1 D type ancestors, 2 D type design, 3 1955 production cars, 4 Building, selling, testing Ds, 5 XKSS, 6 Deetype and Lynx replicas, 7 The special 'works' cars, and 8 D type descendants.

The usual AutoHistory format takes us through the 'what, why and when' and then concludes with detailed specifications and a complete delivery and production summary.

The whole is amply illustrated with many new photographs including an eight-page colour section.
