The electric engine is a complex product, whose development requires both scientific and practical know-how. The electric car is a catalyst for new technologies that will involve the whole society.
The role of government in setting standards, regulations, subsidies and the general direction of the car industry will be decisive.
The traumatic impact on the labour market will be inevitable. Each transition from one form of production to another involves industrial crises, capital mergers and new skills of the labour force.
