With the foundation of the Moto Club of Teramo and the motorcycling "reawakening" of which fascism was a proponent, 1935 saw the opening in Teramo of the long motorcycling season that saw the blossoming of motorbike competitions, of which the Scudo d'Abruzzo was the pre-war flagship.

Born as a regularity competition with the aim of promoting motorcycling and the region's tourist attractions, the Scudo d'Abruzzo was later turned into a speed competition.

In the post-war period, the Scudo "suffered" competition from the better-known motor-racing competition called Circuito del Castello and moved towards the junior categories, where many budding champions found their way, destined (like the brothers Ernesto and Vittorio Brambilla) to continue their careers in motor racing.

At the turn of the 1950s and 1960s, the "Settimana Motoristica", capable of gathering large crowds of enthusiasts in Teramo, became the highlight of the Abruzzo city's summer season (the "Giugno Teramano").

The Scudo d'Abruzzo, which ceased definitively in 1961 following the heated controversy over the safety of motor sports competitions on the road, collected in its twelve editions a fascinating and glorious history, with its many and various curious aspects, rediscovered in a nimble tale enriched with documents and historical notes.
