The story of the Barchetta Morassuti Sport, a car built in Padua in ‘53 and finished in Japan before returning to Veneto two years ago, tells much more than you can imagine.
It speaks of a dynasty, that of the Morassutti, a Paduan family that since the beginning of the last century has accompanied the growth of Italy by specialising in the distribution of hardware and household products, and of that craftsmanship that the world envies us.
Paolo Morassutti was born in 1927, the last of twelve children. A lively and enterprising boy, who in the post-war period not only took care of the company, but also enjoyed recovering what remained of blazoned cars. A real passion accompanied by a growing competence that in ‘53 led him to the idea of building his own car.
To do this, he contacted a specialised workshop in Padua, the award-renowned Pasqualin&Parisotto company, a mechanic and coachbuilder who had already built eight cars with 750 cc engines for the ‘Scuderia Patavium’, a racing team that still exists today.
Pasqualin and Parisotto started work and the flaming red Morassutti Sport bolide with the number plate Pd39022 appeared. A real jewel, but the car's father, creative as well as flighty, soon decided to sell it. From that moment on and for more than fifty years, all trace of Barchetta is lost.
Then from a photo shot in Japan, the discovery of his son Domenico, and, through Asi and Aci register, the discovery: the car from Padua had ended up in Bologna, and then in four other cities before leaving for Japan.
The first contacts with the Japanese owner, who had competed in five editions of the Japanese Mille Miglia with the Barchetta, were unsuccessful. But thanks to the further mediation of an Italian photographer specialising in images of classic cars, the Barchetta returned to the Veneto.
In excellent condition, moreover, but what is surprising the quality of its engine, still the original one, proof of the mastery of the award-winning Pasqualin&Parisotto company.
Morassutti Sport - La Barchetta ritrovata 1953 - 2023, it might be said, is a story with a happy end of a unique car, the result of a great passion for engines.
