Starting from the first edition of 1906 of the car race commonly called Targa Florio, created on the initiative of Vincenzo Florio, and immediately established as an important sporting and social event, the review RAPIDITAS was published which aimed to celebrate, especially through graphics and the photographic images of the event, the modern myths of the automobile, speed and progress.
Nine unique issues were published. Except for the first two, published regularly in conjunction with the 1906 and 1907 editions of the Targa Florio, the others came out with a rather discontinuous periodicity.
To underline the cosmopolitan character of the review and in compliance with the provisions of the international motoring protocol at the time, the first issue is published in four languages, with the translation in French, English and German, while the number two contains only the French translation; subsequent issues were published exclusively in Italian.
From the very beginning, the best Italian graphic designers and illustrators of the time collaborated, Aleardo Terzi, Marcello Dudovich and Duilio Cambellotti, to whom we owe the magazine's logo - two arms wrapped around a steering wheel and the word RAPIDITAS.
This is the anastatic reprint of issue 1, dated June 1906.
