This 2-volume work by Davide Bassoli describes the launch of the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud I and Bentley S 1, including the long wheelbase and Continental versions.
The first volume "The Early Days" describes the launch of the first series in April 1955, explaining those moments of contagious euphoria during the launch and first months deliveries. Accompanied by a selection of previously unreleased period photographs, the book describes the impact of the new models into the motoring world, highlighting the key factors that make these cars an icon of their generation.
Dedicated chapters are reserved for the coachbuilt, the long wheelbase and the Continental versions. A full chapter describes the 1955 Earls Court Motor Show, where the Silver Cloud and the S Series were the protagonists.
The second volume "First Series Chassis Register" is a list of every Silver Cloud I and S 1 built in the original order of build by chassis number, including the long wheelbase and Continental versions, for a total of 5,901 cars.
The register provides information about the first owner, the delivery date, the country of delivery, the British registration number where known, the coachwork and design number for coachbuilt versions, the body number, the paintwork and interior colours.
