"A" as Aufrecht, "M" as Melcher, "G" as… Grossaspach. Behind these three letters stand Hans-Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher, while the G symbolises the former's home town.
In 1967, these pioneers founded AMG, a company - the first of its kind - focusing on tuning and customising Mercedes cars. A new concept was born: high performance, exclusivity, combined with the legendary quality and comfort of the star brand.
Becoming famous for its road and sporty conversions, after twenty years AMG finally captured the attention of its neighbour in Stuttgart. From then on, almost the entire Mercedes range received the AMG 'badge'.
AMG, Les Mercedes hautes performances, with a preface by Jacques Laffite, details this success story. From the 300 SEL 6.3 with 320 hp from the 1960s to the brand new GT and the most recent models marked '45'. "55" or "63 AMG", not forgetting the competition versions, the 300 E "Hammer" and the special conversions, all the highlights are illustrated.
In this third edition, new chapters of this extraordinary company history have been added: portraits of the co-founder and little-known Ehrard Melcher and the current CEO, Tobias Mous; an interview with the founder, Hens-Werner Aufrecht; images from the memorable 50 Years AMG exhibition at the Mercedes-Benz Museum and several historical videos from all eras in augmented reality mode.
