The Grand Prix of Tripoli was a motor racing competition held in what was then Italian Libya from 1925 to 1940.
The race was run on the streets of the city, along a 71.10 km course, until 1933 when, on the occasion of the 7th Grand Prix, a track was inaugurated that would be completed with infrastructure from 1934 and named the Mellaha Autodrome. For these last editions, a prize of 80,000 Italian lira was up for grabs.
The first edition was won by the Brescian OM driven by Renato Balestrero, the last, after five years of domination by German cars, by Nino Farina's Alfa Romeo.
Other unforgettable protagonists were Tazio Nuvolari, Gastone Brilli-Peri, Baconin Borzacchini, Rudolf Caracciola, Achille Varzi and Hermann Lang. The latter two with three victories.
The book by historian Alberto Redaelli, published in 1989, traces its history, through the various editions, with the addition of a rich and valuable photographic collection.
