This book, published in 1975, and born from the undoubted competence of the then editor-in-chief of the 'Milleruote' Encyclopaedia, as well as journalist, Enrico De Vita, is dedicated to rally enthusiasts, driving experts and above all private racers.

The text, as Sandro Munari points out well in the introduction, is quite varied: it ranges from enthusiastic pieces to the inevitably rather dry ones on regulations, from sporting passion to objective criticism, from description of the various driving techniques to their theoretical interpretation.

From a technical point of view, Il rally: tecnica - auto - gare deals for the first time with the behaviour of cars beyond grip limits. Until then, books on this subject, even university ones, arrived at the grip limit of tyres and stopped: 'beyond these limits the car skids'.

A rather paradoxical conclusion, since driving on dirt and snow was all about controlled skidding.

Starting from these brief observations, again Sandro Munari, concludes that 'this volume, full of illustrations, of technical suggestions on how to prepare oneself and car, is the most complete and useful one can find today'.

And, in effect, over the years it has become a cult book, found in the libraries of all fans of this branch of motorsport, and read by all those approaching these races for the first time.
