MAGNETO ISSUE 24 WINTER 2024

Rivista trimestrale in lingua inglese.

In evidenza in questo numero:

  • Cover feature: Aston Martin DB5 Goldfinger cars. Coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the Goldfinger film (and also with the release of Spy Octane – The vehicles of James Bond). Written by Matthew Field, the feature looks at the histories of all four of the Aston Martin DB5s used in the film and its promotion in great detail, with a mix of archive photography and a special shoot of the Fritz Burkard car on Furka Pass, Switzerland.
  • Pietro Frua. A deep-dive by Dr Peter Larsen into the life and work of prolific Italian car designer Pietro Frua, a man known as the chameleon of car design. Illustrated by a period photography.

  • McLaren M6GT and Solus GT. Justin Bell (son of Derek) drives McLaren’s first road car, the M6GT, and the latest track-only ultra-rare Solus GT single-seat hypercar at the Circuit of the Americas. Weaves references to Bruce McLaren’s ethos into the driving impressions along with his experiences driving a McLaren F1 at Le Mans.

  • Lowriders. A photography-led, caption-heavy feature that highlights the intricate details, materials, custom body panels and exquisite paintwork of five of the most important and popular lowriders currently on display in the Petersen Museum exhibition: Best in Low – Icons of the Street and Show.

  • Renault 5 Turbo Europa. An in-depth analysis of Renault’s tiny mid-engined motor sport sensation, with specific focus on the one-make Europa Cup series car. Includes interviews with engineer and driver Alain Serpaggi and Renault racing legend Jean Ragnotti. Shot at the 100-year-old Montlhéry autodrome in France.

  • Cadillac Series 61 'Le Monstre'. Doug Nye tells the background saga to Briggs Cunningham’s attack on Le Mans and one of his most interesting weapons of choice, the slab-sided Cadillac 'Le Monstre'. As one of the few men alive who has driven the car, Doug is uniquely placed to add valuable insight to a fascinating story. Images sourced from REVs Institute.

  • Lamborghini Countach No.2. Massimo Delbo unpacks the story behind Countach chassis #1120002, the first Countach to production car after the show car, and the first built for a customer. Shot in Bonn, Germany with help from Jason Kremer and the team at Auto-Kremer. They are Lamborghini specialists who look after the car for the owner.

  • Top 50 automotive scandals. Richard Heseltine selects 50 of the most outrageous and salacious scandals ever to emerge from the automotive realm. From dieselgate and WRC Toyota turbocheaters to drug-dealing race car drivers and car manufacturing principals, no one gets off easy.
