In 1908, the year of the New York-Paris race, the Bologna Automobile Circuit was inaugurated.
Between 6 and 7 September, two races are held, organized by the young Automobile Club of Bologna, chaired by Ugo Gregorini Bingham (1869-1924): the 528 km (10-lap) Coppa Florio and the 422 km (8-lap) Targa Bologna.
The flat track, 52.822 kilometres long, touches the municipalities of Bologna Borgo Panigale, Castelfranco Emilia, Sant'Agata Bolognese and San Giovanni in Persiceto.
The road network affected by the race is restructured for the occasion, including the doubling of the Borgo Panigale road and the construction of a new bridge over the Lavino stream.
The Coppa Florio, transferred this year from Sicily to Bologna, is won by Felice Nazzaro in a Fiat, at an average speed of 120 kmh.
This and much more is covered in Giampiero Menarini's book, which is not an essay, 'but more modestly a research, the result of many years of passion and several months of reading and investigation during free time, visiting dozens of markets and trying to broaden knowledge in the world of Bolognese history enthusiasts'.
