Jim Dudley, founder of Tiger Racing Ltd, was still a child when he built his first kart, completely made of wood, in the late 1950s in the south-eastern suburbs of London.
Dudley's adolescent curiosity for mechanics and engines grew over the years, and in 1966 he began as an apprentice, but already in 1969 he opened his first workshop in Dartford, working on his first Lotus Seven.
Then, together with his brother Phil, he set up two new garages specialising in VW, Aston Martin and Jaguar repairs as well as Lotus. For years he worked in racing until in 1989, with the help of almost all his family members, he set up his own car company, Tiger Racing Ltd.
In more than thirty years Tiger produced and exported thousands of road and race cars around the world with one special feature: they could be assembled directly by the buyer by providing just the chassis or the complete assembly kit.
An Autobiographical History of Tiger Sportscars chronicles the development of Tiger Racing in Wisbech, and Jim's childhood before the company was founded in 1989. The book is illustrated with more than 300 images covering models, projects, club events and the history of this family-run business, including restored examples.
