October 1947: the Lambretta is born! An event that would revolutionise the individual mobility of millions of scooterists worldwide. The Lambretta, a pure Italian and Milanese product, imposed itself on international motorbike markets as the most sporty and elegant, most modern and refined scooter.
The first model was conceived in Rome in 1944, at the home of Ferdinando Innocenti; it was not yet called Lambretta but only "esperimento tipo 0". After three years of studies, trials and road tests, the Lambretta was ready for its baptism to the international public; at the Paris Motorcycle Fair in October 1947, the new product made its official entry into the European scooter world.
The first Lambretta was named 125 m (motorscooter) and was produced from October 1947 to October 1948 in 9,669 units. The demand for a more comfortable product led Innocenti to introduce the 125 B in November 1949.
With new, more efficient suspension, larger wheels and a gearstick control on the handlebar, the 125 B achieved great commercial success and production was more than tripled compared to the 125 m, which from that moment was called 125 A.
Lambretta 125 A-B Storia, modelli e documenti/History, models and documents surveys all the versions of these early Lambrettas, with chapters on technique and others focusing on advertising and costume.
Also this monograph has been written by Vittorio Tessera, Italy's leading expert on the Innocenti brand and the Lambretta in particular.
120 pages and hundreds of colour and b/w photos. Text in Italian and English.
