With Vincenzo Lancia, by his own will, the company never competed. Under his son Gianni, the situation changed with his arrival in Formula 1 before retirement from racing.
After some ten years, the Turin-based brand returned to racing (1965-1990), winning seven World Rally Championships and two World Endurance Championships.
The model that returned Lancia to racing was a coupé "in two different forms" (one by the company itself and another bodied by Zagato): the Fulvia.
